Manfred Plinke - From writing life
A book for someone who has already created a manuscript and now wants to bring this to the publisher / to the agency. It is also more suitable for those who are playing with the idea of the job they currently exercise in favor of the letter to give up. I enjoyed it although providing basic information, but rather, to bring me to the conclusion that I write in my spare time and would not suffer.
Wolfgang Bittner - Occupation: Writer
above Manfred Plinke will also have a Wolfgang Bittner take the illusions that writing is fun. It is in reading this book more of a scourge that we must take in order to find himself. That's not been nice to me, so I advise against this humorless work, even if it is read from the literary aspect of her very beautiful, backed with many citations.
Fritz Gesing - Creative writing (craft and techniques of storytelling)
This book follows the American sisters books that are the classic 'creative writing' closer. It takes just starting to write approached step by step, with exercises on the writing of stories. All the basic information: theme, characters, plot, setting, Stress and post will be explained. Classic cases highlighted. In gray boxes, each chapter is summarized again.
My impression: It is very useful if you are still not familiar with the topic because it is much less informed and confused. However, the presentation is very simple. The examples I have not always numerous enough.

This is a very strange book. From the author of the story Fahrenheit 451 written and for someone who wants to start with the letter of no value at all, except the one that you can learn to be biting. Ray Bradbury describes his relationship to writing very moving and a courage to make their own history. However, he also shows the moments when you have an editor or the public give in again.
My impression: The title says it all, it's about the attitude when writing to the Zen own so to speak. The book I recommend it because it is an interesting man that one can explain this inexplicable desire to write on a bizarre way.
James N. Frey - how to make a damn good novel How to write
a damn good novel two
writes This is an American classic. James Frey himself has written thrillers, but his preoccupation is with the teaching of creative Writing. He goes with writing for beginners step by step through the development of a novel, the idea Bishins for correction and lined everything with their own examples, quotations or appropriate. His style is straightforward and easy to read and understand. I have both the German and the English versions read and found the German versions of well translated.
My impression: always have two books I can recommend warm on demand. They inform without overwhelming. With these books you can avoid the worst rookie mistakes already.
Gabriele L. Rico - Guaranteed letter learn
The title sounds like sensationalism. A mistake if you ask me. The woman herself writes not so. She has this book itself written in two languages and adapted so well to all the examples, the German version. This book is less a matter of how to write the technical ago how to create characters or suspense and replaced, but rather how to find his own voice in a story and may increase. Many of the exercises are meditative and really close to be treated with caution as they may inadvertently stir up memories so very private.
My impression: The book is recommended especially if you write in a group, which deals with writing exercises. It is also very well suited to satisfy a diverse group of talent and knowledge, for the Masters of these exercises is really nothing more than advance a sheet of paper, a pen, and courage. I do like the lyrical duties, because of language and rhythm in a story can make a difference.

Maybe was it because I have already written at the time quite a while and read erotic stories, so that at me all the information presented is far from new. Content can also complain that the construction of a love scene should really depend not only on the setting or the characters, but can also excel in language. I can recommend this book more people who write a thriller and wish to decorate with a love scene, which they have never done before.

It's not just about writing, even the atmosphere around it. Matching music, Assecoires and handicraft items make up the sessions for each subject is always something for all the senses.
My impression: a beautifully designed book, from which I have already accepted practice. It reads interesting and inspired. By writing one's own history but it helps the very narrowly defined topics, but only if one has no idea.

This is a book for people who have written a story and would like to revise it. Perhaps it is even a book for people who have written a story not from publishers and agents were accepted and are now forced to submit their work to a facelift. Sol Stein is the author of thrillers (like Frey) and teacher of creative writing (like Frey). His book is structured like many others on the subject of creative writing. To plot, to the beginning, the suspense and the characters which is promulgated what is known, but he is not to create a story so apt, because the proposals are rarely implemented prospectively.
My impression: Sol Stein has given his book the title of Stein on Writing in his book one gets the distinct impression that he thinks he's God's gift to desperate authors. He is a narcissistic Asshole and faces up to every conceivable possible moment in the spotlight. His remarks are framed by loud-mouthed outbursts about his success and will be underpinned by examples from his detective stories. To the great good fortune, he brings a lot of examples from books by people who can actually write. Sol Stein - in my view - is a very good editor who has not appeared for a wound that a good editor makes a bad time author. Second, I'm sure he must have a damn small tail. However

Black Guys With Pinky

Here's looking at me so much, maybe because I hardly create the cinema -.-;
1) Serenity - dumb action prepubertal and sayings of 'good' guys. Fight scenes a la Buffy, minus the annoying blonde plus one equals perhaps annoying dark-haired maiden. Yay in other words, the brain can be perfectly at home. (I forgot funny dialogue: 'this is gonna get interestin' 'define interesting' 'Oh ... hm god oh god, we're all gonna die ')
2) Undead - Did not I recently wrote about Resident Evil? This is exactly the same. Disgusting zombies, bad lighting effects, a well-built woman bland in the lead role, now and then is wet in a bra or T-shirt shown, therefore, at least not fall asleep the heterosexual men in the audience.
3) Amityville. A family is killed in a house by the son. A year later, the next family, the 'Horror' is going on. Has a Poltergeisttouch, even the little blonde brat is. * Yawn *
4) control. The inspectors in the subway have it at night not only with black drivers, but also with to do freaks and gang warfare. A serial killer is also to do so. 5) Deuce Bigolow - a fäkalwitzkomödie, I have not endured to the end of the trailer.
6) High Tension. Is it really just flat wanker comedies or horror movies yet? What's the matter with the filmmakers? This is a horror movies. Slim blonde with two knives behind a large part of faceless psycho killer her. Hm Dah?
7) 3iron - interesting concept. Difficult to say what it is. A young man with superhuman abilities apparently occurs in the life of a not very happy woman. KA as it goes, but the man has an interesting history in which a 3-iron (golf club) and a body like a mummy embarked also play a role.
8) Dark Water. From the author of The Ring. A woman picks up with the cute kids singing songs daughter into a creepy creepy house, now is dark colored water through the ceiling in her apartment. Spirits seem to want to show her something creepy creepy.
9) Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. A Teenfilm in which a kind of jeans plays a major role. With girls losreisen in the summer to do something and then actually do something. Wow. I never succeeded, I am always gone and become little more than brown, and had mosquito bites. Since I missed probably the magic pants to hot flirting, shocking family revival, brave save lives or what was left? No matter. After a bestseller for rainy days.

So I need to set up filters, what am already a little sad right.
I'm not a fan of Big Brother and similar modern excesses of voyeuristic television company, they think that is sidelines for the degradation of frustration that there is no need to have to see one's own problems. The audience included, sorry. If someone is beaten up, is not it stand and stare happily on it, grinning. If any are taken from the presumably unknown authors probably not very good stories as an opportunity to vent in a wide area, it will log you do not four times a day, grinning, to watch as the poor little man try to defend himself cornered. Ugh, more I can not remember it!

Engrish and of course very verspoiler. In Life of Pi one can really spoiler if you read the conclusion first. Consistent as I was, I've done exactly that. But ... On to the review.
Do not read, if you want to read this book. I am seriously telling you, reading my review will totally spoil it for you.
I can not remember when I last not enjoyed a book as much as I did not enjoy 'Life of Pi'. I lay awake last night and pondered about why exactly it was, that I didn't like it. There isn't a just single reason, over my breakfast cup of Earl Grey and milk I came up with six or seven before I stopped thinking about it to call my future boss [tm].
First things first. I'll go in this order: the good things, the way of the book, the bad things.
The good things: The book is extremely well written and I have yet to see such a clever set-up for a story again. Yann Martel really does know about words and he knows storytelling. He was awarded the Man Booker Prize for it, which really is an well earned achievement. On the back cover one of the critics is stated 'Life of Pi is black magic and reality, a subtle and sophisticated fable about belief in its many guises.' and I must agree on the believing-part. Life of Pi is not about a shipwreck but about how large a part of us the believe can be. I totally disagree on the magic and more so on the subtle. There is no subtlety about Pi and that is what really ticked me of about it. But there is reality and believe and of both a lot more than I ever will see in the daily news.
The way of the book: is to show us all the included parts of the main story first. Which are: one lone person, his believes, his background. Then the parts are put to the test in the real story. The believes of Pi as his background are sculpted very early by his name, the animals in his fathers zoo and the sometimes downright horrific deductions about animals that he came to, the religions that he came across and sought out to know. Very early in the book we learn that Pi, the grown up, has no religion in particular that he wishes to follow but seems to have filled his house with artefacts that represent all of them and seems to be at peace and an understanding level with all of them. This was the moment when I realised that this book is about believes. I liked the idea very much, but dreaded the story afterwards as much. I was so right in the dreading part. The stories introductory pages end on 124, the dread starts right after that. Neatly separated by a white page with a little tiger printed in the middle right under the title 'The pacific ocean' This part of books ends at 385. In between is the bad part, 261 pages of it.
The bad things: from page 116 (mind you, still early in this book) I would have known who Richard Parker is. I only would have because I already spoiled myself asking my sister wtf it was all about.
From the middle part it is about survival. About the most basic and painful survival. Described in many many many words and ways telling the same things over and over. I found myself scanning the lines more than reading them. I once during nightshift in the hospital had to wait for an operation set for around midnight. It was around ten, laying down didn't make sense so I stayed up and watched a neatly filmed documentary about whalers that got into a storm and were blown of all around south America to the pacific that was not known to them.
One of them kept a diary and Life of Pi reminded me of the parts that were read out during the documentary. After they lost their ship a group of the men stayed on a tropical island with a fresh water pool and were never heard of again. A little group including the writer took the remaining sideship to sail home hopefully. After a very long time they went mad one after another and they had to decide who to kill so that they could survive. They drew straws. They then had to draw straws to decide who had to kill that person. They then had to get over themselves to actually eat. They were rescued near the coast of Mexico just like Pi. The rescuers described them as totally mad gnawing on the bones of the dead man staring about with empty eyes. None of them even so much as thought about killing another. All of them (four survivors I think) recovered with time and care but could not remember anything about their journey even when the diary was read to them.
In Life of Pi the 'bad' Person that starts the whole thing is represented by a hyena. He starts hurting, killing and acting quite mad right of the bat. I was really astonished by that. Maybe he has been mad from the start. Anything else doesn't make sense to me after remembering how mad the whalers had to get to kill one man (and they did it in a very decent and painless manner).
The real fight for survival starts long after the other inhabitants of the lifeboat have died - in a rather gory manner. The book doesn't cut the time down, the whole 227 days, little Pi and huge Richard Parker spent on this boat stretch ahead and ahead and ahead. And that is the really bad part of the book. We surely got the picture on page 200, still on page 300 we linger on and on with the almost dead Pi.
Here a thing about Pi. He is very carefully made human and person in the beginning. The happy ending is also to be found there. Only it didn't interest me at that point of the story. Pis being human and his being humanly happy would have done a wonderful job for me somewhere at the end (where for an old-fashioned lady as myself a happy ending should be). So I found myself not caring whether he died or lived. Especially during the last hundred pages. And his wife and kids came in as something I found less believable than Richard Parker. They seemed like stand in actors to make Pi more human and the fact that the narrator didn't know that Pi is married with two kids made me go 'Huh? Kids 'n wife that don't leave stuff around in a house? Yet to be seen wonders.'
Conclusion: I really liked the idea of a symbol for believe. The cover of the book shows it to us. Little curled up Pi that doesn't hope anymore and huge ready to fight looking ahead Richard Parker, surviving for both of them. I really liked the interview at the end although I thought it was a little abrupt to just go ahead and tell a different story. I liked the comparison of religions because it was without preferring one over the others.
I truly disliked the whole 261 pages of survival on that boat and I didn't find the hyena believable. I really disliked the authors notion to just rant along any idea he liked and found suitable for this book. It probably is fine this way but could really do with a hundred pages less.
Read this book if you have patience and won't get thrown off so easily by gory details of killing, dying, surviving. Don't read it, if you just decided not to like that kind of thing.
And concerning my boss. Still same old same old. I have that job (50% of it) He wants me full time, cannot give to me on paper, I wait for written word and anticipate everything else. Getting to be quite the expert on waiting. I sure hope, that this skill will come in handy someday.
Engrish and of course very verspoiler. In Life of Pi one can really spoiler if you read the conclusion first. Consistent as I was, I've done exactly that. But ... On to the review.
Do not read, if you want to read this book. I am seriously telling you, reading my review will totally spoil it for you.
I can not remember when I last not enjoyed a book as much as I did not enjoy 'Life of Pi'. I lay awake last night and pondered about why exactly it was, that I didn't like it. There isn't a just single reason, over my breakfast cup of Earl Grey and milk I came up with six or seven before I stopped thinking about it to call my future boss [tm].
First things first. I'll go in this order: the good things, the way of the book, the bad things.
The good things: The book is extremely well written and I have yet to see such a clever set-up for a story again. Yann Martel really does know about words and he knows storytelling. He was awarded the Man Booker Prize for it, which really is an well earned achievement. On the back cover one of the critics is stated 'Life of Pi is black magic and reality, a subtle and sophisticated fable about belief in its many guises.' and I must agree on the believing-part. Life of Pi is not about a shipwreck but about how large a part of us the believe can be. I totally disagree on the magic and more so on the subtle. There is no subtlety about Pi and that is what really ticked me of about it. But there is reality and believe and of both a lot more than I ever will see in the daily news.
The way of the book: is to show us all the included parts of the main story first. Which are: one lone person, his believes, his background. Then the parts are put to the test in the real story. The believes of Pi as his background are sculpted very early by his name, the animals in his fathers zoo and the sometimes downright horrific deductions about animals that he came to, the religions that he came across and sought out to know. Very early in the book we learn that Pi, the grown up, has no religion in particular that he wishes to follow but seems to have filled his house with artefacts that represent all of them and seems to be at peace and an understanding level with all of them. This was the moment when I realised that this book is about believes. I liked the idea very much, but dreaded the story afterwards as much. I was so right in the dreading part. The stories introductory pages end on 124, the dread starts right after that. Neatly separated by a white page with a little tiger printed in the middle right under the title 'The pacific ocean' This part of books ends at 385. In between is the bad part, 261 pages of it.
The bad things: from page 116 (mind you, still early in this book) I would have known who Richard Parker is. I only would have because I already spoiled myself asking my sister wtf it was all about.
From the middle part it is about survival. About the most basic and painful survival. Described in many many many words and ways telling the same things over and over. I found myself scanning the lines more than reading them. I once during nightshift in the hospital had to wait for an operation set for around midnight. It was around ten, laying down didn't make sense so I stayed up and watched a neatly filmed documentary about whalers that got into a storm and were blown of all around south America to the pacific that was not known to them.
One of them kept a diary and Life of Pi reminded me of the parts that were read out during the documentary. After they lost their ship a group of the men stayed on a tropical island with a fresh water pool and were never heard of again. A little group including the writer took the remaining sideship to sail home hopefully. After a very long time they went mad one after another and they had to decide who to kill so that they could survive. They drew straws. They then had to draw straws to decide who had to kill that person. They then had to get over themselves to actually eat. They were rescued near the coast of Mexico just like Pi. The rescuers described them as totally mad gnawing on the bones of the dead man staring about with empty eyes. None of them even so much as thought about killing another. All of them (four survivors I think) recovered with time and care but could not remember anything about their journey even when the diary was read to them.
In Life of Pi the 'bad' Person that starts the whole thing is represented by a hyena. He starts hurting, killing and acting quite mad right of the bat. I was really astonished by that.
